Rail strike threat is lifted after late-night pay talks
The threat of strike action on South West Trains has been lifted after the train drivers' union Aslef suspended next week's action over pay.
Aslef said that a deal had been clinched during late-night talks between the company and the union.
The draft agreement will be considered by the union's executive at its meeting in mid-April. This will be followed by a referendum of members in South West Trains. At that stage the action will be re-imposed or called off.
The strike was due to have run from Monday until Thursday. Members had voted for action in a dispute over pay.
They had been offered a pay increase of 4.5 per cent, which would have given a driver working in the London area a basic salary before overtime of £40,447 for a 37-hour, 4.4-day week.
