A MAN left critically ill after falling from his motor-scooter when a tyre blew is still in a coma.
Steve Neal, 58, of Station Road, Petersfield, was yesterday said to be in a stable condition at the neurological unit of Southampton General Hospital.

A brain scan was carried out on the retired Forestry Commission officer and doctors were waiting for the results.

Mr Neal and his wife Irene came off his Vespa bike on the A27 between Portsmouth and Havant at 2.15pm on Friday.

Mr Neal suffered head and chest injuries which were so serious that he had to be airlifted from the scene.

Mrs Neal, who was riding pillion, suffered cuts and bruises.

On the day of the blow-out Mr Neal had been to the Isle of Wight ferry departure point in Portsmouth to watch scooters leaving for the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally.

He had been planning to go back to see more scooters but came off his machine while driving his wife home.
