WORK begins today on repainting Langstone Bridge after council chiefs admitted a makeover carried out five years ago was sub-standard.
Contractors will go in and repaint the bridge that connects Havant to Hayling Island because paint has badly blistered along the structure.

The bridge was repainted in 2002 and 2003 when new steel parapets were installed by Hampshire County Council contractors.

But although the county council has admitted the right paint was used, some of the workmanship was below the required standard.

Remedial work begins today and one side of the footbridge will be closed while the repainting work is carried out.

Work will be carried out one side at a time with occasional disruption to over-night traffic while scaffolding is erected or removed.
