An ex-Royal Marine Commando is preparing to use his military skills to help others by opening a military martial arts academy.
Greg Allison, who now works as a police protection officer at Westminster, will be using the training he has gained in the forces to help teach people valuable life skills and confidence.
The classes will all be taught by ex-military instructors and Greg believes that their old-school approach will teach people about discipline and self-respect.
Greg said: 'After completing the class, people will gain confidence. It might be "wow I can't believe I have done 100 sit- ups" or something else. A lot of it will be fitness drills, which will help you to be more efficient in everyday life if you are rushing around.'
The classes will involve circuit training, self-defence and throws and will be available for children from the age of four through to adults.
Greg, of Pitcroft Lane, North End, added: 'I would like to get as many kids as possible coming to the classes to help turn them into better and more confident people.
'Being fit and healthy is a massive confidence boost to young people which can improve their overall outlook on life and even improve their school grades.
'Adults want to be more fit and might be overweight. If I can help them to get to their target weight this will be a massive achievement.'
The idea behind the classes came after Greg, 26, took part in a military course where his mental and physical capabilities were tested to the limit.
After the gruelling selection course, run by an ex-Parachute Regiment physical training instructor and an ex-Royal Military Police officer, Greg decided he wanted to give this intense training to others.
The Military Martial Arts Academy will open on October 21 at St Mark's Church, Derby Road, North End. Introductory classes are being held at the church on Tuesday and Thursday between 6pm and 8pm.
