A HORROR writer has had her first story published.

Victoria Leslie, 28, from Cosham, penned the fictional piece last year, and is to be published in horror magazine, Black Static.

The story, called Ulterior Design, is told through a male’s perspective and focuses on the psychological issues of feeling trapped in a relationship and society’s conventions.

Miss Leslie, who teaches English literature at South Downs College, said: ‘I have written quite a few academic pieces but wasn’t sure if I would be any good at fiction so when I heard that people liked it, it felt brilliant.’

Here’s an extract from her story: ‘He fancied he saw shadowy creatures lurk within the pattern, waiting for him to fall asleep so they could creep into his home. So he tried to stay awake, to keep vigilant but eventually his eyelids became too heavy and somewhere between sleep and reality he saw insects, centipedes and spiders, crawling out of the paper and onto the floor.’
