REVIEW: Nancy Kerr and the Sweet Visitor Band at the Ashcroft Arts Centre, Fareham

The first half concentrated on Nancy’s debut album Sweet Visitor and in the second half we were treated to some new material from her forthcoming album.

Billed as a regional debut by drummer/guitarist Tom Wright, Crow’s Wing, the not so uplifting tale of a dead bird, was a highlight.

The friendly and open musicians created a bond with the audience. I certainly felt as if I was a part of the show and this made the night more special. Nancy also told of how she saved a family of bees in Fareham earlier in the day.

My favourite song of the night was the last of the regular set: Never Ever Lay Them Down. It’s a rousing, lively tune about love in the industrial city of Sheffield where Nancy lives. It features twin violins and is a storming way to finish a gig.

Although this was only the second night of the tour the band are already playing extremely well.

On this showing the new album can’t hit the shops soon enough.
