Former Guide Award-winner Dirty Sky Jones has had a quiet year.
Aside from a few summer festivals and autumn gigs, he’s taken his attention off booking gigs and spent most of 2012 finishing his debut album.
‘I still haven’t thought of a title for it,’ says Dirty Sky, or Sam. ‘But it’s almost done and it should be out at the end of February or the beginning of March.’
He’s rewarding his faithful fans, who’ve waited very patiently for his album, with a special Christmas present tomorrow when he’s holding ‘A Very Dirty Christmas Party’ in the shape of a gig at The Cellars at Eastney.
It’s set to be a festive night of acoustic music from DSJ and friends including Bemis, Sweetchunks and Alex Denham.
‘There will be six or seven artists all doing one of their own songs and a Christmas song or two,’ explains Sam.
‘I wanted to do something for a bit of fun. Something uptempo and festive and not overly serious,’ continues the singer-songwriter who is looking forward to ‘a lot more time-off than usual’ this Christmas.
He’ll need to rest up now, because 2013 looks set to be a busy year. ‘We’re hoping to play plenty of summer festivals after the album launch in spring. So next year’s already looking quite promising,’ explains Sam, who is in the running for Best Solo Artist at the Guide Awards again on January 28.
As for the album, he reveals: ‘It’s more band-based with a lot more vocal harmonies and big bandy stuff including the occasional bit of fiddle and trumpet.’
