THE proud mum of Portsmouth-born X Factor star Josh Cuthbert is urging the public to help finalists Union J clinch the coveted title.
Mum-of-three Kathryn Browne, 50, is appealing to fans of the hit ITV show in our area to pick up the phone and vote for the four-piece in Saturday’s live semi-final.
Union J – made up of band members Josh, George Shelley, JJ Hamblett and Jaymi Hensley – have been in the bottom two three times since making it to the live shows.
But each time they have clung on to survival.
Now they are up against favourite James Arthur, Chris Malony and Jahmene Douglas.
And Josh’s mum Kathryn is, of course, backing Union J for the top spot.
She said: ‘We just need people to pick up the phone and vote.’
Union J survived last Saturday’s sing-off against controversial fellow contestant Rylan Clark after again falling into the bottom two.
But mum Kathryn is hopeful that the band can make it through to the final showdown.
She added: ‘It’s incredible.
‘It’s been the most exciting time but also very stressful as well.
‘You have all the excitement on a Saturday – the lovely night – when you go and can enjoy the performance.
‘Then the Sunday looms and it’s the fear of what’s going to happen.
‘They’ve been in the bottom two three times now.
‘Josh is very close to most of the contestants.
‘They were obviously very sorry to see Rylan go.
‘They’ve come so far.’
Josh, 20 – who some national newspapers have linked romantically to fellow contestant Ella Henderson, 16 – was born at St Mary’s Hospital in Milton Road, Milton, Portsmouth.
He was a pupil at St Jude’s CE Primary School in Southsea and Kingscourt School in Catherington before moving away from the area.
Union J will sing for survival live on ITV1 on Saturday.
If they make it to the final Union J will perform on the same stage as previous contestants – five-piece boyband One Direction.
Emeli Sande is also set to perform at the final.
