The end of August has many meanings to different people. The impending start of a new academic year, the final throws of summer or even the start of the countdown to Christmas. However you perceive it, it gives the city’s clubs chance to shine and, this week, they certainly do that.
First off, head on down to Club 8 tonight as they give you Rewind & Deja Vu. DJ Stu W and DJ A will be teasing you with some of the hottest new music to hit the streets, not only for your aural pleasure but now also visually, with their big screens playing the music videos as well. Entry costs £3 before midnight and £5 after.
A special edition of We Supply Movement is on at Little Johnny Russell’s tomorrow night. Fresh from the release of their first album, indie scenesters Is Tropical appear for a special, one-off DJ set. Expect great indie and tunes from some of the band’s biggest influences. Admission costs £3.
Sunday is the night to be out this weekend and it all starts at Pure. Get set to cool-off your Summer and get extremely soaked as they give you a huge Foam Party.
You can get your requests in early by visiting Pure’s Facebook page and writing on their wall. Just make sure it fits the commercial, r ‘n’ b, house and dance menu. The night runs from 9pm until 2am and entry is completely free. Make sure you take a coat for the walk home.
The following night Pure hosts its usual Monday night extravaganza. Expect a night of scream-a-longs, hands in the air, crazy dancing and good times as Delight sees Guide award winning DJ Will Chump joined by brand new resident DJ Daddy Alex (best known for his time as DJ at the Subversion rock club) to host its annual bank holiday ‘Anthems’ event. Members of the Monday night: Delight Facebook group choose their favourite alternative anthems to get played at face melting volume in the club. Anyone wearing a Delight badge or a Reading festival wristband gets in for free before 11pm. For everyone else it’s £2 before 11pm and £3 after.
Now, this Bank Holiday weekend wouldn’t be the same without a little nostalgia. Every year at least one club finds a way of reminiscing something and this year is no different. They are going back in the day for the annual get together at Liquid with The Time & Envy Reunion Party. After last year’s sell out reunion, they’re bringing it back on Sunday. If you were there, freezing you tail off on Southsea seafront waiting to get into Time for what was, the best night of the week for you then, they want you to turn up and remember. I will see you there. Entry costs £5 or book online at liquidclubs.co.uk/portsmouth for 20 per cent discount.
