My favorite night out, Swanky Sessions, continues its monthly residency upstairs at Drift Bar, Southsea, tonight.

It’s all about showcasing the best local DJ talent Portsmouth can offer.

As always Swanky head honcho will there. He has changed his DJ name and is now known as Gus Emmett but his unique deep techno vibes still go down a treat. Completing the line-up are two double acts. DJ duo Soul Status and deep dark groovers KLINK.

Expect only the finest house and techno from 10pm until 3am upstairs and the best in commercial dance and RnB downstairs. Prices start at £3 before 11pm and rise after. My advice is to arrive early and, of course, stay late.

Tomorrow night at The Alma Arms, Southsea, Dub Clash return from 7.30pm until 1am, after the success of their summer event, for their Xmas Clash.

Featuring live sets from Hakuna Pesa, Lord Tooth, Wavescape and DJs Joel Clash and Tom Mayhem this will be a night not to miss. Entry will be £3 before 9pm
and £5 after.

If this isn’t your thing then carry on along Albert Road until you reach the Wedgewood Rooms where you will find Hipshaker from 9.30pm.

Not only will you have the Hipshaker DJs spinning vintage sounds including funk, soul, jazz and Motown but they will also have the Fliks shown live. The ultimate collection of girl groups, 60s girls and soulful women will stimulate your dancing feet. I have been told you need to prepare for a night so funky you won’t be able to leave the dance floor. Tickets: £5 available from the Wedge.

As always, Amplified Sessions are at the Astoria from 10pm until 2am after yet another successful weekend last week with three major acts in one night. This week they bring you another headliner in the shape of Will Saul from Simple Records and AUS Music, playing a mix of deep house and techno with a mix of soul and melody.

Supporting him will be local DJ Tommy Mundell from Sonic Heavy Records.

Tickets: £7 from Resident Advisor.
