THIS WEEK IN 1988: Nightclubs refuse acid house parties

Have your say

It was a big week for the Portsmouth club scene last week as the Astoria opened its doors for the first time. I attended the opening night and can highly recommend it. Fantastic club.

Tomorrow, Portsmouth Guildhall is host to Jaguar Skills from 9pm. This DJ is a man of mystery with very little information available about him.

He even wears a balaclava.

However, he’s well known for his multi-genre mixes often heard on Radio One.

Tickets: £15 from (023) 9282 4355 or

Also tomorrow, from 6.30pm, the Love Boat is back as Love Amplified take to the water with their second boat party setting sail from Gunwarf Quays.

Captaining this ship will be Crosstown Rebel’s DJ duo Fur Coat. Their style is unique, using a passion for salsa and soul mixed with a love of electronic. Perfect for the Portsmouth coast.

Supporting them will be resident DJs Abbo and the Business Partners along with local talent Klink and Danni Mac.

When the boat docks, head straight for the Astoria for the afterparty. Not only is the afterparty hosted at the freshest club in town it’s also got another headliner.

DJ Jordan Peak was nominated for the Best British Breakthrough DJ by DJ magazine last year. His music is a fine line between house and techo, using old school values with some of the newest sounds.

Joining him until 2.30am will be resident Sam Bylett.

Tickets for the boat party are £25 and include afterparty entry. Or afterparty tickets are £6 from

Now, if you are a fresher, you are being spoilt this week with two big events.
