POMPEY have teamed up with the county’s only powerchair team, who play the wheelchair-based version of football, to help get people involved.

Starting tomorrow, there will be a fortnightly powerchair session, hosted by the club and Warsash Wasps Sports and Football Club.

Powerchair football is played to the same rules as the running game but with some adaptations. It allows for people with disabilities, both young and old, from both sexes to enjoy a form of competitive sport.

Steve Baxter, from Clanfield, got involved as a way of helping his footie-mad son, Gregg, who was born with cerebral palsy, to enjoy the game. He now coaches the Wasps’ team and said ‘The ethos has been about providing football for all. We welcome anyone who wants the opportunity to play this fun and exciting sport.’

The session is at Priory Specialist Sports College in Fawcett Road, Southsea, from 1pm to 3pm. For more information call Steve on 07810 852525.
