The News Guide Award runner-up for Best Comedy, Instant SOOP, comes to The Cellars at Eastney tonight from 8pm.
Inspired by biographical information from the audience members, the acclaimed improv show by Havant’s innovative theatre company SOOP is making it’s debut at the Southsea venue.
We caught up with Vincent Adams from the Instant SOOP troupe to find out what makes him tick.
When did you first realise you were funny?
I remember asking for an extension to my overdraft in 1993. The cashiers were rolling in the aisles and eventually the whole thing transferred to their Selsey branch for a three-week run.
What would you be if you weren’t a comedian?
There’s a company I know that makes draft excluders. They’ve said that, if the chips are down, they can always use me.
Name three things that make you laugh.
1: Cats. People have no idea how long they spend planning slapstick.
2: Over-cooked noodles (although I am working on several uses).
3: Network Rail’s ‘I’m sorry to announce...’ announcements.
What’s your favourite one-liner?
They were identical twins – one of them particularly.
Who’s your biggest hero?
Nelson, although if you extract the column, he’s quite a small man. If he’d had two columns, people might have thought it was trousers.
Tickets to see Instant SOOP at The Cellars at Eastney tonight cost £10 on the door or £8 in advance from (023) 9282 6249.
