Both members of acoustic roots duo Show of Hands will appear in the Portsmouth area next week – separately.
The Phil Beer Band will play a sold-out show at the Ashcroft Arts Centre in Fareham on Tuesday, while Steve Knightley is in Hambledon on Sunday and Southsea on Wednesday.
Having appeared in North Boarhunt last week, Steve is returning to the area for two more gigs.
His special guest at both will be fellow Devon musician Jim Causley, the rich-voiced, award-nominated former frontman of the band Mawkin:Causley.
Steve is touring to support of his debut live solo album – Live in Somerset.
Released yesterday, the album melds stand-out originals and Steve’s unique take on some traditional folk songs.
He won the Best Original Song accolade at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for the topical title track of Show of Hands’ last studio album, Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed.
The heartfelt tirade against bankers and bonuses, MPs and expenses, not surprisingly continues to resonate with most of the population.
Long-term musical partners, Steve and Phil, also won the Best Duo title.
Steve and multi-instrumentalist Phil will be back together as Show of Hands when they play in Fareham in April and Portsmouth in June.
n Steve Knightly performs solo at Hambledon Village Hall on Sunday, January 29, (023 9263 2418) and The Cellars at Eastney on Wednesday, February 2 (023 9282 6249).
