Brighton-based four-piece Porchlight Smoker will be bringing their own brand of high-energy, rocking bluegrass/Americana to Old Portsmouth’s Square Tower on Friday September 26.
But it’s a description that doesn’t do the band’s unique take on the genre any justice, as songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fred Gregory says: ‘I hate trying to describe our music. We’re some kind of mash-up of mainly American roots styles with an arty, unpredictable edge.
‘I would describe the Ramones as high energy – we’re not what I’d call high energy! But we do have a way of searching for the magic in the music, and we feed off each other’s energy.’
The band will be celebrating the imminent release of their highly-anticipated third album at the gig.
Tickets are £10 in advance, £12 on the door, from squarerootspromotions.co.uk or 023 9238 2888. Doors open 7.15pm.
