This week I want to start off with a bang, as rarely will Portsmouth see such a thing.
That’s right, tomorrow night, Love Amplified have only gone and booked the Resident Advisor number one DJ in the world – Dixon from Innervisions!
Berlin-based Dixon originally wanted to be a footballer, but due to injury he had to find a new path, discovering his skills as a DJ and producer, and he now owns Innervisions Recordings – and a bakery in Berlin.
As you can probably tell I am a little bit excited by this, as I have already seen him this year, but I had to travel to Malta for the pleasure.
The kind of places this guy plays in includes: DC10, Panorama Bar and Robert Johnson – some of the best clubs in the world. From 10pm until 5am, Amplified Sessions takes over The Astoria basement for this special occasion.
Supporting him will be Kris Davis and Gus Emmett, some local DJs who are avid fans of his and whose own unique styles will blend nicely with Dixon to give your ears a musical journey until the early hours. Tickets are £10 from Resident Advisor.
If this isn’t your cup of tea, then make your way to Albert Road or Palmerston Road, where you will have some other quality options.
Beats & Swing will be taking charge of The Wedgewood Rooms from 9pm until 2am. Special guests this time are the Hackney Colliery Band, with support from DJs Los Cojones, Pimpernel Jones and Mike Jackson. Tickets are £8 from the Wedgewood rooms.
If House Is A Feeling you are having, Flamingos Bar have let my favourite female DJ Liz C take over, joined by soulful house DJ Tony Broad from 7.30pm until 1am.
Expect some funky, soulful and jackin’ house, with free entry all night.
Or if you fancy a bit of the Monkey Love Stunt Team, fresh from their Bestival debut – and knowing them they are probably still buzzing – then head to Drift Bar from 10pm until 3am for the Baddest Ruffest September Sessions.
It’s a full house with DJs Flymic, Le Fish and Chissie Rascal. Time to get stunty. Entry is free before 9pm, more after.
