Southsea prepares to get psyched for a new festival

Have your say

Last weekend was a quiet one for me as I start to prepare for the build-up to Christmas and the amount of events that are coming up that I am noticing in all shapes and sizes.

I also want to add a bit of recognition for DJ Kris Davis who will tonight be warming up with a two-hour set at XOYO in London for none other than Ten Walls. As a Portsmouth DJ that is quite an achievement.

Tomorrow night head lady of The Brown Rice Record label is going back to the start and reacquainting herself with her DJ and party roots by setting up base in The Wedgewood Rooms on Albert Road from 9.30pm.

Neneh Cherry made a bit of a comeback earlier this year with Blank Project, her first solo album in 17 years, which has seen her feature at many festivals.

Support will come from special guests Ted At The Controls.

Head down and join the party, tickets are just £8 available from The Wedgewood Rooms, and all profits will go to Arms Around The Child.

Further down Albert Road you will come across The Fat Fox and inside from 8pm, you will find the second instalment of the Det Sync parties that are being held there.

Now I missed the last one but am more than excited about this one.

Featuring their custom-made Det Sync sound system and a small collection of talented DJs, this party is set to go off.

This time, it’s the debut of the DJ collective that is Mister Woo, a combination of Reset Robot, Jon Gurd and Tom Powell and not forgetting a set from Pete Callard.

Get down early as it was packed last time out, and entry is free before 10pm.

Lastly, to finish off your weekend with some calmer vibes, I have spotted a new event every held other Sunday at The Marmion from 6pm.

DJs Carl Lemon and Ethan Owen join forces to bring you the best in Motown and Northern Soul, I’m sure with a mixture of other things.

Now mix this in with the mouth-watering food that is served here and you are on to a winning combination.
