After playing in heavy metal bands, Dominic Kresten Vermeulen-Smith and Matthew Hallett have put down their electric guitars and picked up the acoustics.
The Portsmouth-based pair now perform as The Machete and have just released their debut, self-titled EP.
Inspired by acoustic artists such as Rodrigo y Gabriela and Jesse Cook, they have been writing upbeat tunes using mostly metal techniques in Spanish gypsy scales.
They’re playing gigs at the Fawcett Inn in Southsea on Saturday, and The Pelham Arms in Fratton on Sunday. Entry to both is free.
