A VERY mixed audience surrounded Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo in the intimate setting of The Cellars.

Many had heard about the Australian folk artist when her BAFTA award-winning song Nostalgia was used as the theme tune for BBC detective series Wallander.

It was a great opportunity to hear songs from their third and newest album, Almanac, as well as experiencing the ‘nostalgia’ from older tracks.

Emily’s soft voice harmonised with vocals from the band as she finger-plucked her acoustic guitar against narrative folk lyrics. Every song conjured up a world to lose yourself in, particularly Dancers, inspired by her time living in London.

The Red Clay Halo created a sound richer than you would expect from three people.

Emily Barker is definitely one to look out for at this summer’s festivals.
