A string ensemble from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will open the 2014-15 Portsmouth Chamber Music concerts on Monday (7.30pm).
The series has a new home at the Guildhall – initially not in the Harlequin Room as previously planned, but in the main auditorium with performers and audience all on the stage.
Colin Jagger, director of music at the University of Portsmouth which promotes the series, says: ‘The move to the Guildhall brings many benefits, not least that the cafe will be open from 6pm for snacks or a meal.
’Guildhall staff have been trying to persuade me to give the stage a chance – and having seen what they have in mind, I think they are right.’
Monday’s programme features Dvorak’s String Quintet in G, Op 77. Leading the ensemble will be Ruth Rogers, who was co-leader of the BSO from 2008-12, with current string-section principals also taking part.
Tickets cost £16 (concessions £14) from 0844 453 9028 or portsmouthguildhall.org.uk.
