A STONKING performance by a group of bagpipers in kilts playing covers of classic metal tunes set the tone for the awesome Friday night at Wickham Festival.

The crowd paid homage to the distinctly Scottish flavour of the night by wearing kilts for the brilliant Red Hot Chilli Pipers who were followed by fellow Scots KT Tunstall and headliners the Proclaimers.

The Pipers were cracking fun sashaying through a set consisting of everything from AC/DC, Guns and Roses to Coldplay.

KT Tunstall put in a blistering one woman performance accompanied only by an electric guitar, a loop pedal and a kazoo.

She was in great form, leaving the audience in stitches between each song cracking jokes.

There were bluesy / folky/ pop hits from her debut album, Eye to the Telescope including, Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, and thankfully fewer from her foray into dance music. Invisible Empire was stunningly beautiful.

As always The Proclaimers were great fun playing hit after hit for the delighted crowd.
