Jump Into The Fog singers The Wombats come to Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday.

After their second album, The Wombats proudly present… This Modern Glitch, reached Number Three last year, their Portsmouth show is one of only three shows scheduled so far for 2012.

Their latest track is called 1996, but the Liverpool alt-popsters are probably best known for their 2008 NME Best Dancefloor Filler Award-winning single Let’s Dance To Joy Division, or Moving To New York – a track they released the same year.

Like many former guitar bands, The Wombats have opted for synths for their latest album, but of course, there are still elements of riffing and strumming and even a guest appearance from Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro.

The Wombats Norwegian bass guitar and keyboard player Tord Øverland-Knudsen explains: ‘You take the electro and you take the grunge and you put it together with what we used to do on the first album, then that’s what the second album is.’

Support on Monday comes from Hooray For Earth and The Static Jacks from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £16 from (023) 9282 4355.
