Birdy won the Open Mic UK talent competition when she was just 12.

Now, at 16, the New Forest singer has had a No.13 album and massive hits Shelter and Skinny Love.

Gosport teen Mollie Hughes is hoping to follow in her footsteps, performing at the grand final of Open Mic UK 2012 at London’s 02 tomorrow.

If she wins, the 17-year-old from Highbury College will receive recording studio time, music development and £5,000.

‘Playing at the o2 is a dream come true. I can’t believe I’ll be doing it before I’m even 18,’ says Mollie, who also competed in Britain’s Got Talent when she was 14.

‘Obviously, I’m hoping to win, but I already feel like a winner because I’ve done something I’ve always wanted to do,’ continues the soulful singer who will perform her own song, Stronger, in the final.

Mollie says her aim is not to be just like Birdy. ‘I don’t really look up to anyone in that sense. I’ve always wanted to be someone else’s role model.’

Tickets to the grand final cost £15 to £35 from
