A work commissioned by Portsmouth Grammar School, and premiered in the city’s Anglican Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday in 2001, will be performed there again next week.

Ave Maris Stella, by Cecilia McDowall, is included in Portsmouth Festival Choir’s concert with soprano soloist Amaia Azcona Cildoz and organist Mark Dancer on Saturday, November 14 (7.30pm).

The programme, conducted by Peter Allwood, also includes Mozart’s Laudate Dominum, Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer and O For The Wings of a Dove, Britten’s Te Deum in C, and John Rutter’s Magnificat - which includes not only the biblical text but other words inspired by the Virgin Mary’s story.

Tickets cost £12 (concessions available) from portsmouthfestivalchoir.co.uk or ticketsource.co.uk.
