A TEDDY bear taken to the Isle of Wight Festival as a tribute to a nurse who died suddenly has become an internet phenomenon.

Kyle Birch, who was a theatre nurse at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, had been planning to go the festival - which is taking place this weekend - to see Fleetwood Mac.

But he is believed to have died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome on December 23 last year.

However, his friends and cousins have taken the bear to the island and are asking festival-goers to take selfies and take him crowd surfing – and get acts to bring him up on stage.

Kyle’s uncle Mark Mudie said: ‘My daughters, Chloe and Rebecca are there with the bear, it was Chloe who set up the Facebook page.

‘They can’t believe how this has taken off – everyone wants to speak to them and have their picture taken, and it’s gone viral online too. They’ve been absolutely overwhelmed.

‘He’s going to be more famous than Fleetwood Mac.’

Among the bands who have agreed to take the bear on stage were You Me At Six, who are the subjects of today’s Big Interview in The Guide.

‘They’ve already had more than 30 bands agree to take the bear on with them, but they are still waiting to hear from Fleetwood Mac – that’s the biggie.’

The family have already also received offers to take the bear to Vietnam, Cambodia, America and elsewhere.

‘It restores your faith in humanity,’ added Mark. ‘We want to emphasise that it’s not just about Kyle now, it’s about what the bear represents.

‘Everyone has lost someone they love – we want the bear to be a surrogate for that love.’
