REVIEW: Richard Morris at Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea

Its been a heady week for the Portsmouth singer-songwriter Richard Morris after being chosen as BBC Introducing's Artist of the Week.

Backed by a fabulous six-piece band, Morris exhudes confidence as he commands the stage and audience.

I remember seeing Jake Bugg on the same stage a few years ago and coming away thinking that there was a genuine talent up there – with a little luck, Morris could reach those dizzy heights.

At the end of the day its about the songs, and Richard has a hatful of them. Debut single What Is Love has an air of Jack Johnson about its hooky chorus which the audience are only too glad to sing along to.

Richard is playing at Portsmouth Guildhall on March 18 as part of the part of the Beating Hearts Festivals. You may want to pop along.
