The Three Degrees strutted across the stage wearing dazzling pink sequin gowns and killer heels before launching straight into the funky disco of Shake your Groove Thing by R’n’B duo Peaches and Herb.

Back in the ’60s and ’70s, the golden era of pop, these soul divas reigned supreme in the charts, having hit after hit. Some 50 years later the trio are still going strong, with two of the original ladies Helen Scott and Valerie Holiday joined by comparative newcomer Freddie Pool.

The soul songstresses have written themselves into the Guinness Book of Records by being the longest running female vocal group in history.

The audience was swept off its feet with Take Good Care of Yourself, Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now by McFadden and Whitehead and enjoyed a singalong to When Will I See You Again.

By the finale we were all up on our feet, shaking our thang and having a bop to Boogie Wonderland in a fun party atmosphere.

It was a brilliant evening of pure pop nostalgia and I relished every second. There was great support from Eleazar King.
