Rumer released her top three, double platinum-selling debut album, Seasons Of My Soul, at the end of last year, earning her masses of critical acclaim.

The Anglo-Pakistani singer and songwriter has built an extensive live following. In London alone, she has already sold out The Royal Festival Hall, Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Notting Hill’s Tabernacle and The Bloomsbury Theatre.

Her Royal Albert Hall date later this month is also particularly timely. It is a venue she played in support of Jools Holland last year, and will now return to headline, capping an astonishing 12 months.

Similarly, she returned to Glastonbury this summer for a huge show on the Pyramid stage, having performed there at the tiny Greenpeace stage last year. She also appeared at Hard Rock Calling, Latitude and Cambridge Folk Festival this summer as well as headlining an iTunes Festival date.

Having grown-up in Pakistan and the New Forest, Rumer was previously in an NME-favoured band called La Honda before gaining the ear of Burt Bacharach and forming a producing partnership with Steve Brown.

She says of her music: ‘I’m not concerned with what’s musically popular or fashionable, really. All I wanted was to make something of quality that would stand the test of time, that people could come back to, and that was rooted in authenticity. Because that’s the kind of music I listen to.’

See her on Thursday at Portsmouth Guildhall, with support from Pepe Belmonte from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £25 or £32.50 from (023) 9282 4355.
