A song-cycle widely regarded as the most powerful ever written will be performed in a major departure for the Portsmouth Chamber Music series of concerts.

Schubert composed Winterreise in the final year of his tragically short life. It consists of 24 songs portraying a poet’s winter journey with intense emotional depth.

Marcus Farnsworth (baritone) and James Baillieu (piano) are brought to Portsmouth by Music in the Round, winners of this year’s Royal Philharmonic Society award for chamber music and song.

Winterreise, lasting 75 minutes with no interval, will be performed at the Third Floor Arts Centre in Portsmouth Central Library on Friday, November 29 (7.30pm).
