The easy listening melodies of this band float through the air and immediately relax anybody in earshot.
So, there’s some good news for anybody in need of uplifting. The feel-good music of the Lighthouse Family can be heard once again on Thursday at Portsmouth Guildhall.
Lyrics such as ‘Sun’s gonna shine on everything you do,’ and ‘We could be lifted up today, lifted all the way’ will ring around the Guildhall as one of the most successful bands of the 1990s make their comeback.
The Lighthouse Family began in 1993 and by 1996 they had their first top-10 hit with the catchy single, Lifted.
By the end of 1997, their easy-listening album, Ocean Drive, had made its way into most people’s homes and spent an impressive 154 weeks in the album charts.
In 2003, both men decided to go their separate ways and concentrate on their solo careers.
After a seven-year break they were approached by Sony, who recognised that there was still a massive fan-base for the Lighthouse Family, and they decided to reform.
For those of you worried that the music will be different to what made them successful, don’t panic.
They thought the best way to recapture their Lighthouse Family vibes would be to do a 10-date tour using their original material. A new album will follow, after the tour.
Vocalist, Tunde Baiyewu, explains: ‘Between us, we already have the stuff for the album. We’ve written individually and together. It’s just a matter of getting back into character.’
Expect to hear their now classic tracks. Everybody should be able to sing along to their most famous songs.
So, come on everybody: ‘We are gonna be, forever you and me...’
