Local band plays local gig isn’t exactly the most unusual selling-point for a story on these pages. But what’s getting us all excited is the fact that the band in question is a rather unusual group, made up of local favourites.

Concept/country/folk band The Retrospective Soundtrack Players released their debut album, Cool Hand Luke, earlier this month. The aim was to form various backdrops to the band’s favourite cult films and books.

Originally a two man concept project by a pair from The Dawn Chorus, RSP released their first track as a B-side to one of (now label-mate) Frank Turner’s singles and went on to feature on BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music.

Now including members of The B of the Bang and All The Shapes, you can see them tonight at the Chichester Inn, Sunday at the Edge of the Wedge, May 13 at Talking Heads in Southampton, or May 14 at Foggy’s Bar in Petersfield.
