California produced many great bands in the 1960s and early ’70s. It’s A Beautiful Day are one of the few to have survived.

Their album, Marrying Maiden, and smash-hit, White Bird, are widely acknowledged as some of the all-time classic rock recordings.

The current incarnation, reunited after a split, is made up of four of the original line-up, including David LaFlamme on violin, who has also played with Tracy Chapman and Dan Hicks.

Their gigs move from folksy sounds through ethereal jazz to psychedelia and rock ‘n’ roll, interspersed with David’s poetic recollections of San Francisco’s ‘Summer of Love’.

On Wednesday, their UK tour comes to The Chichester Inn from 8.30pm.

Tickets: £12.50 from 01243 783185 or on the door.
