THOUSANDS of ukulele players are needed for a new world record attempt.

Hampshire Music Hub, a partnership led by Hampshire County Council, is organising the record-breaking attempt at Southampton Football Club on Friday, July 18.

To break the record, it needs more than 2,134 players. So far more than 2,150 players have signed up but the hub says it would like to see more.

Jill Larner, head of Hampshire Music Service, said: ‘The response to our initial appeal has been excellent and I am grateful to all those who have signed up but would love to see even more coming forward.

‘I’ve learned that an American ukulele world record attempt is taking place later this month, so we are going to need all the help we can get if we are going to be in with a chance of bringing the world record home.’

Leading the record attempt, which starts at 1.30pm, will be Cbeebies’ actor and entertainer Justin Fletcher MBE.

Entry is £6, for more details call (023) 8065 2037 or email music.service@hants.gov.uk
