ALL the entries are in – and now it’s time for YOU to vote in our fantastic talent contest The Singer And The Song.

The contest, run by The News and Portsmouth Festivities, aims to give young musicians aged 17 to 25 a leg-up in the music industry.

Solo artists and groups of any genre were able to enter as long as they lived in The News circulation area, were unsigned and had at least three tracks of their own material.

Videos submitted by each entrant can now be seen at portsmouth.co.uk/thesingerandthesong. After you’ve watched them, simply click on the link that takes you to where you can vote for your favourite. Voting is also available by text and postal form and closes at midnight on Sunday June 9, 2013.

When voting is complete, our judges will also confer to give their opinion. The eight shortlisted acts will then go on to appear in the live final at the Wedgewood Rooms in Southsea on June 23.

That night the overall winner will be chosen by a panel of experts including music industry professionals and representatives from The News, Wave 105, the Wedgewood Rooms and Portsmouth Festivities.

Each shortlisted act will perform three songs written by themselves. They’ll be judged on both the quality of the songwriting and the performance.

The winner will get a great prize package that includes:

A day in a recording studio, including engineer, recording and mixing two songs and travel expenses

A professional photoshoot

Their song played on Wave 105

The chance to perform on the Wedgewood Rooms stage and at The News We Can Do It Awards and The Guide Awards

A trophy to mark their success

Samantha Worsey, general manager of Portsmouth Festivities, said: ‘This is a great opportunity for aspiring young musicians to showcase their work. We’re so looking forward to hearing some of the musical talent in the area.

‘The lucky winner will be offered a fantastic package of prizes, which we hope will give them opportunity to develop and grow as artists.’
