Karl Wallinger, AKA World Party, suffered a brain aneurysm in 2001. Now, 12 years later, the Grammy nominated singer-songwriter is back.

Karl started World Party in 1986 and went on to write and release five critically acclaimed albums, including Goodbye Jumbo which won Q Magazine’s first Album of the Year award.

World Party is best known for writing and recording She’s The One, which was subsequently covered by Robbie Williams and earned him a No. 1.

But World Party was forced to come to a temporary halt when Karl suffered his aneurysm.

By 2006 he had made a full recovery and began performing again in the US, Australia and New Zealand.

Last year he released Arkeology, a five-CD collection complete with 70 songs, live recordings, demos, radio sessions, covers as well as some new songs and Karl and his band played at the Royal Albert Hall.

Now he’s back in the UK and joined on tour by David Duffy on violin and mandolin and John Turnbull on electric guitar to give fans a chance to hear World Party songs performed in a completely different way.

n World Party come to the Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea, tomorrow with support from Andrew Foster.

Tickets cost £22.50 from wedgewood-rooms.co.uk or (023)92 863911.
