Today is the last chance to catch a glimpse of the work of some of the next generation of local artists. Above The Blue gallery in Port Solent is hosting the New Wave exhbition of work by 30 illustration students from Portsmouth University.

Pieces were selected by a panel of established artists including Lizzie Cornelius.

Director Lynn Pickett says: ‘Art lovers will be interested to hear about the exhibition as they rarely get the opportunity to see and purchase work from talented artists of the future.’

Items include sketches, prints, book covers, artist books, framed ceramic moulds and a painted skateboard, pictured left. Prices range from £25 to £500.

‘Many are under the misguided impression that illustrators just make children’s books, when in reality the mediums used in illustration work are as varied as fine art,’ says organiser and exhibitor Nicola Smith. n The free to view, selling exhibition is open from 10.30am-7pm today.
