Same Difference cancel tour dates - but they'll still play Portsmouth

Same Difference and Leon Jackson are cancelling dates of their planned co-headline tour.

But the brother and sister singing duo from Widley have refused to give up their home town show at Portsmouth Guildhall on Sunday, May 10.

This news comes just weeks after Sean and Sarah Smith, who found fame as runners-up in TV talent contest the X Factor, were dropped by Simon Cowell's record label Syco.

Sean and Sarah contacted The News exclusively ahead of the official announcement about the cancellations. Sarah said: 'They wanted to cancel the Portsmouth show, but we've had so much support in our home town, we didn't want to let the people of Portsmouth down.

'So we're taking on the organisation of the show ourselves. It's going to be mine and Sean's personal project, with a little help from our management.'

The singer says that financial reasons are behind the band's management and promoter's decision to cancel dates of the tour.

'Some of the shows that are being cancelled were sold out, especially in the areas where our core fanbase are. It's crazy,' she explained.

'But basically it's all down to the recession. Not all the shows were selling so well, because people just haven't got enough money to go out to concerts. If you've got a family of four, it will cost you about 80, and that's too much for a lot of people. It's a real shame.'

The original Same Difference tour schedule was for 22 dates, which was reduced to 19 (cancelling a Southampton show) when they joined forces with Leon.

'I don't know exactly how many dates will be cancelled, they are still working that out. I think it's about 11 or 12 dates remaining,' continued Sarah.

The Portsmouth gig will go ahead as originally planned, before Leon Jackson came on board as a co-headliner, and Sean and Sarah are hoping that fans from Brighton, and other areas where shows will be cancelled, will come along to the Portsmouth date.

Sarah said: 'It's going to be a massive pop party, a big gig for us, and we're going to do it the Same Difference way.'
