Andrew O’Neill isn’t your usual stand-up comedian. He’s a metalhead, an amateur occultist, a cross-dresser and a musician.
His surrealism verges on the absurd, but it’s always inventive, intelligent and entertaining.
‘I’ve pretty much been a show-off since birth,’ he says.
‘I did comedy sketches in assemblies at school, and spent my A-levels making comedy films with my mates on my brother’s camcorder.’
He’s been on TV, most notably in Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and Saxondale with Steve Coogan, and he’s done plenty of radio.
He’s also a regular on the comedy stages at Download, Sonisphere, Bloodstock and the Leeds and Reading festivals.
He comes to the Wedge Comedy Club in Southsea tonight with Inel Tomlinson, Chris Martin and regular compére Dinga.
Tickets (which include a disco until 2.30am) cost £8 from (023) 9286 3911, wedgewood-rooms.co.uk or on the door from 7.30pm. Food is served until 8.45pm, but costs extra.
