One of the greatest ballet dancers will be coming to the Mayflower.

Carlos Acosta will be bringing On Before to Southampton on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The show is created and danced by Carlos Acosta and Royal Ballet Principal Dancer Zenaida Yanowsky.

On Before tells the story of a doomed relationship between a man and a woman.

Michael Ockwell, Mayflower Theatre Chief Executive, says: ‘I am very excited that we are able to bring Carlos to Southampton as part of our dance programme.

‘In my opinion Carlos is the finest dancer of this generation.

‘These will be rare performances by a dancer at the very top of his game, and I urge anyone who has a liking for dance in any of its forms to come and see this mesmerising partnership.’

The show combines existing and new choreography by some of the world’s leading dance makers.

Russell Maliphant, Kim Brandstrup, Will Tuckett, Edwaard Liang, Yuri Yanowsky and Miguel Altunaga have all been involved in the production.

The show has a wide-ranging score from Handel to a commission from Cuban composer Omar Puente.

It culminates in a moving finale featuring the live choral work of Morte Lauridsen’s Magnum Mysterium with singers from Southampton Choral Society.
