Bench Theatre, one of the area’s leading amateur dramatics groups, is hosting a week-long festival of new one-act plays in February next year. As part of it, the group is looking for entries to be submitted.

The aim is to stage eight new works at The Spring, Havant, and all of them will be directed and performed by Bench Theatre.

After being launched by the Havant-based company 12 years ago, the festival provides opportunities for writers to have their work presented on stage and for audiences to see a range of new material.

Anyone – whether an established writer or amateur – can submit up to four short plays for consideration (at no cost) by September 30.

The scripts should be unpublished and unperformed, with no performing rights attached. They also need a maximum of six actors (but any number of characters) with a single act lasting between 15 and 35 minutes.

It should be suitable to be performed in the space available at The Spring, Havant, and submitting material to Bench Theatre gives the group rights to perform it on the date given (copyright remains with the author).

Entries should be sent electronically to supernova@benchtheatre.org.uk, including the writer’s name in the email (not in the script).
