As previously reported in The News, the Denmead Operatic Society were one of the lucky few amateur performers who won the rights to perform Titanic: The Musical, and are performing it at the Park Community School, Havant from June 6-9.

With music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, the musical, which bears no resemblance to the James Cameron film, opened on Broadway in 1997 and has never been produced in London’s West End.

It won five Tony Awards, including the awards for Best Musical and Best Original Score.

An unusual subject for a musical, the production looks at the individuals on board and how the collision with the iceberg dashed the dreams of hundreds.

n Tickets cost £9 to £10 from Denmead Operatic Society on (01329) 310849.
