With the summer heatwave Portsmouth has been experienceing recently winter may be far from most peoples’ minds but plans are already afoot for a local festive winter treat.
On Friday November 28 until Sunday November 30, the 15th Victorian Festival of Christmas takes part around Portsmouth historic Dockyard. Streets will be covered with snow and decorated for the festive season and there will be a popular Christmas market offering Christmas gifts and seasonal fayre.
Bringing this classic Christmas scene to life will be around 600 actors and performers dressed as ladies, gentlemen and street urchins playing traditional Victorian games.
Kirsty Malloy who has performed in the festival for the last fourteen years says: ‘It’s now part of my Christmas and it would not be Christmas without the festival. We get so much from the directors and production team at Groundlings that it’s a real pleasure taking part each year.’
The Groundlings Theatre is looking for performers, actors, singers, dancers, musicians and entertainers to take part in the festival. All ages and abilities are welcome and prospective performers just need to enjoy acting and entertaining people.
