The Nuffield theatre in Southampton regularly features plays and performances that team up with outside writers.

Running from October 20 - 29, the theatre is teaming up with Southampton-based playwright Maggie Neville to perform Alchemy In The UK.

It will star The Bill’s PC Roger Valentine, John Bowler, and Geoffrey Freshwater, who has appeared in Eastenders, Midsummer Murders, and most recently Law And Order: UK.

The play confronts the realities of being in and out of work in modern Britain, with Tiff turning 18 years-old and desperately wanting to have her first car, but will everything turn out the way she hopes?

Director Patrick Sandford says: ‘Maggie’s play is about the emotions of a man who is laid off from his job – about his feelings, frustrations, hopes and imaginings, and also those of the people around him.

‘Maggie is a sassy and vibrant writer so the play is not depressing. It is often savagely funny, startling and uplifting.’

But before alchemy takes over at the Nuffield, GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN present External from October 17 – 19 as part of a national tour.

Tickets for Alchemy In The UK cost £10.50 to £19, and tickets for External cost £8 to £10 from the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, on (023) 8067 1771 or go to nuffieldtheatre.co.uk.
