Dynamo Youth Theatre will be treading the boards at the Kings Theatre, Southsea, on Wednesday with its portrayal of Portsmouth following the First World War – One Pride, One People.

The original musical, by Andrew Bowker and local composer and musician John Gleadall, focuses on the ordinary people of the city after the difficult times the country faced during the war.

Soldiers returned to a complete lack of jobs and housing, and families who had already sacrificed so much ended up facing terrible privations.

However, the community spirit kept the people going.

Following a sell-out run at The Spring, Havant, in January, the play shows how the city people stayed together through the hard times. Artistic director Andrew Bowker says: ‘Dynamo will raise the roof with this production. The company can’t wait.’

Dynamo Youth Theatre, which has members from across Havant and beyond, celebrated its thirtieth year in 2011.

Tickets cost £8 to £10 from the Kings Theatre, Southsea, on (023) 9282 8282 or go to kings-southsea.com.
