One of the best known British films, a story of six out-of-work Sheffield steel workers, has been transformed for the stage by the original writer, Simon Beaufoy.
Performing at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton, from Monday until Saturday, it stars Kenny Doughty who plays Gaz, the Robert Carlyle part in the original film.
He says: ‘I was really excited from the start and it was important to the company that they didn’t just put the film on
stage. They wanted to make a new play that was based on the film and having Simon on board, the film’s writer, was just amazing.’
So far, the tour has sold out at nearly every venue: ‘I can’t believe, at a time like this when everyone is tightening their belts, that people are still coming out to the theatre to see us. We’re very lucky to be part of such a great play’
Tickets cost £15 to £29.50 from the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton, on (023) 8071 1811 or go to mayflower.org.uk.
