IT WAS a mutual love of kung fu that has brought mother and son team Rory and Liz Campbell to the stage.

Now Rory, 13, and Liz, 47, from Purbrook are set to perform in a Wisdom Of Shaolin stage show at the Oasis Theatre in Southampton.

The show is part of the UK Shaolin Temple’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

Rory and Liz are to demonstrate kung fu moves and illustrate the history of Shaolin in the show.

Rory took up kung fu classes when he saw a promotion offering a free lesson on the back of a cereal package after the release of the film Kung Fu Panda. He said: ‘It helps me stay in shape, mentally and physically, and meet new people.’

Liz said: ‘Someone said to me “why don’t you try it too?” and it just went from there.’

The show will present the rare tradition of Shaolin and bring to light its spiritual and physical disciplines, which many who practice it say leads along the path to enlightenment.

The performance is on today at 6.30pm. Tickets are £15 from ukshaolintemple/production.
