Think you know The Little Mermaid?

Think again, because from April 28 to May 2, Nuffield Theatre presents Shared Experience and Nottingham Playhouse Theatre Company’s co-production of Mermaid.

Shared Experience is renowned for its physical adaptations of literary classics, and Mermaid – a retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy story The Little Mermaid – is no different.

The show is set in a world where below the ocean there is no death or pain, and above the water is the modern world, filled with war and poverty.

On her 16th birthday, a mermaid rises up to the surface, leaving her childhood behind when she falls in love with a mortal prince.

She knows that she can no longer live at the bottom of the ocean, but must she destroy herself to find love?

Using a chorus of local young women to create an unearthly musical landscape, Shared Experience conjures the magical world of the mermaids.

Tickets: £10-25, on sale from nuffieldtheatre.co.uk or by calling (023) 8067 1771.

There will be a free post-show Q&A with the company on Wednesday, April 29.
