Patience Agbabi comes to the Square Brewery in Petersfield onTuesday with a reading of her latest poetry as part of Peterfield’s Write Angle poetry cabaret.
Telling Tales is a retelling of Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales for the 21st century. Mining the Middle-English text for its performance potential as well as its pilgrims, her collection gives one of Britain’s most significant works of poetry thrilling new life.
A former Poet Laureate of Canterbury, Patience is touring the book to festivals and venues this year with producers Renaissance One. Her performance at the Square Brewery will be accompanied by music and an open mic evening.
With praise from fellow poet Simon Armitage and Jeanette Winterson, who describes Telling Tales as ‘pilgrimage of punks, badasses, broken hearts, beat poets, silver-tongued fixers, town criers, beauties and sinners,’ this is Chaucer with attitude.
Patience Agbabi comes to the Square Brewery in Petersfield on Tuesday from 7.15pm-10.30pm. For more information call 01730 264291.
