Highbury College is setting up two youth performing arts groups at its Cosham campus as part of a project called the Portsmouth Creative Academy.

Members of the theatre and dance groups, aged 12-16, will learn from experienced teachers in state-of-the-art facilities, and each group will stage public performances twice a year.

The courses cost £50 per term. Portsmouth Youth Theatre will run from 6pm to 8pm on Mondays from January 24 and the youth dance group from 6pm to 8pm on Thursdays from January 27.

Ultimately, the Portsmouth Creative Academy will teach a range of creative skills to all age-groups in the community.

Emma Patchett, lecturer in media and arts says: ‘We’re planning to expand to an adult theatre group and dance group after Easter, and to offer one-day workshops over the school holidays.’

A youth singing group is also planned after Easter.
