Titchfield Festival Theatre’s new production of comedy Colder Than Here has a special meaning to the amateur dramatics group.
One of its long standing members, Clive Butcher, had brought forward the idea to perform the play and direct it. But sadly in November, he passed away at just 53 years old.
But the group decided to carry on with the plan to perform it, in his honour.
Director Kevin Fraser says: ‘He was in our first production ten years ago. He was going to bring in some new people for it, and he was going to be in it and so was his daughter. We decided to keep on doing it, and continue in his memory.’
Laura Wade’s Colder Than Here features the story of Myra, who has bone cancer, and a life expectancy of 6-9 months. In the comedy she decides to take on new projects and bring her family closer together.
Kevin says: ‘It’s an interesting play for us to do. It’s about how you come to terms yourself with the fact that eventually you won’t be there and her getting ready for the death and bringing her family together.
‘It’s not morbid it’s a piece of beautiful theatre. It’s uplifting and really very funny!’
